Queen Mary University of London Achieves Quality Standard in Carer Support Accreditation

Queen Mary University of London has achieved the Carers Federation Quality Standard in Carer Support for Higher Education, highlighting its work to better support students with caring responsibilities.

The accreditation recognises Queen Mary’s efforts to raise awareness of young adult carers across the institution and to ensure that students are able to access appropriate advice, flexibility, and support throughout their studies. This includes clearer communication, staff training, and more visible support routes for students who may otherwise struggle in silence.

Queen Mary’s involvement in the Driving Change in Higher Education project has played an important role in shaping its approach, helping the university to consider the full student journey, from access and transition through to progression and success.

By achieving the Quality Standard, Queen Mary demonstrates its commitment to embedding carer support into institutional culture rather than treating it as an add-on. The accreditation supports ongoing work to create an environment where students with caring responsibilities feel confident disclosing their circumstances and asking for the support they need to thrive.
