Carers Federation have worked closely with schools across Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire schools for many years, and many schools have been supported to become ‘Carer Friendly’ and confident in the identification and needs of young carers.
Through NHS Clinical Commissioning Group contracts in Nottinghamshire South, Carers Federation have worked closely with 86 schools over the past 4 years.
These schools have improved their provision for young carers through staff training, policy changes, awareness assemblies and resources. This has led most schools to identify a named Carer Lead who is the point of contact for young carers, their families, school staff and external agencies.
