Adult Carer Support is a Carers Federation service funded by Nottingham City Council and Nottingham Primary Care Trust. In addition to the support available from this service, there are other means of support in the City.

When you call this service you will speak to a carer support worker who will try to identify the support most appropriate to your situation. If you are seeking information, we will try to provide this for you or point you in the direction of a service who is able to provide more accurate up to date information than we provide (this is usually when a carer is seeking information about a particular medical condition e.g. motor neuron disease etc). If you have recently become a carer and are distressed for instance that your loved one has had a stroke, we will give you the time, space and emotional support to deal with your raw emotions and assist you in beginning to think clearly about the things you may need to do.

We offer a menu of services that carers say they value:

  • Individual one to one support
  • Telephone helpline support
  • Access to a counselling service for carers
  • Access to mentoring (particularly for younger adult carers who are managing the demands of work/education as well as caring)
  • Group support
  • Help with benefits and form filling to ensure you receive entitlements
  • Referral to Adult Social Care for a carer's assessment - this is a legal entitlement
  • Access to an emergency card system - help with who will look after the person you carer for if you are unable to do so because of an accident or emergency
  • Information about your rights and a trained advocate to support you if you are struggling to get the system to hear you

Carers support groups
There are a range of geographically based and specialist support groups in the city. These provide carers with an opportunity to meet with others in similar situations, make friendships and take a break from caring. The groups can help reduce feelings of isolation and help you cope with the caring role.
