Certificate in Independent Advocacy

Certificate in Independent Advocacy

City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Independent Advocacy

City & Guilds Approved Centre
In independent advocacy, you act as a voice for older people, people with disabilities or anyone else who needs support to empower them to make their own choices and have their needs respected.

The Certificate in Independent Advocacy is the only nationally recognised qualification for advocates. The qualification was introduced in the advocacy sector in March 2009 to develop national training as part of a drive to improve standards and consistency across advocacy provision.

The qualifications were developed in collaboration with the Department of Health and are designed to help you learn more about how to represent an individual's interests and how to support them to interact with other individuals, organisations and agencies.

The qualification is aimed at three groups of people:
•    Existing advocates
•    Workers looking for an introductory award who may have just started to work in the sector
•    Professionals who use advocacy skills as part of their role

Carers Federation became an approved centre with City & Guilds in January 2010 to deliver the training and assessment candidates require in order to become qualified advocates. We are one of the few providers of the qualification in England and are working with a number of organisations including Nottinghamshire County Council to support candidates through the qualification.

We are proud to have worked in partnership with Integritas Advocacy CIC since 2009 to design and deliver the qualification so that candidates receive training programme high in quality. Integritas are one of leading training providers in the country in the field of independent advocacy. They are an approved provider of Best Interest Assessors under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS) and have trained over 2,000 people in the Mental Capacity Act. You can find out more about Integritas’ work at www.integritasadvocacycic.co.uk

We welcome the opportunity to discuss the qualification and your requirements with any individual or organisation who would like to undertake the training and assessment through City & Guilds with our centre. Please contact our Andy Perrey (Training Manager), on 0115 962 9362 or by e-mail at training@carersfederation.co.uk
