Mentoring Project Information
"The mentoring relationship will help to build the confidence,
self-esteem and motivation needed to make positive changes in their
lives."
Rachel Walker, Carers Federation mentoring project manager
The
Mentoring Project is designed to enable mentees to form a trusting,
one-to-one relationship with a mentor in a way that will have a positive
impact on their daily life. We aim to enable people to focus on their
own needs and to benefit from the support of someone who will get to
know them over a sustained period of time. The scheme recognises the
differing needs of mentees, and mentors work creatively to support each
carer's individual journey.
A mentor is never judgmental but will
listen to how the mentee is feeling and provide support, encouragement
and feedback, as well as helping to develop their skills and set goals.
He or she may also get involved in encouraging the mentee to explore
their future education or employment options or to develop social and
leisure activities.
The Mentoring Project also provides a range of
groups and training for mentees, enabling them to build relationships
with their peers, learn new skills, gain confidence and experience
different activities. The broader aim of these groups is to enable
mentees to access further opportunities in the wider community.
The
mentor role is both practical and emotional and will suit caring people
with excellent listening and communication skills. To become a mentor
you don't need any specific qualifications but we will provide you with
regular training and supervision to ensure that you can fulfil your role
confidently and effectively.
