Counselling
"My counsellor was professional, supportive and positive, while acknowledging my struggles. Using the counselling service has enabled me to carry on."
Carer who is registered blind and who has looked after her father since his serious head injury.
Looking after a relative, neighbour or friend can be an isolating experience and it's often difficult for carers to find someone who will understand the daily difficulties and challenges they face. For some carers, counselling can make the difference between coping and not being able to cope.
A counsellor will not judge and will never tell you what to do. Instead, he or she offers you an opportunity to talk in complete confidence and can be a vital support in difficult times. Your counsellor will work with you in ways designed to meet your individual needs - whether this means helping to reduce anxiety or depression or tackling specific problems as they arise.
The service is free and in the last year has been more in demand than ever before. It's available to adult and young carers alike, including those whose caring role has recently ended, and to the wider Nottinghamshire community. In the last year we've also worked extensively to support children within schools.
"Following his counselling Harry is a lot more at ease with
himself over his fears of dying and is coping better with his mum's
death... He's now much more confident."
Father of a 12 year-old boy who struggled after losing his mother to cancer.
