BECONN

BECONN

"It's great to have an ethnic minority support worker who can really understand your individual needs. I'm only sorry I didn't get to hear about BECONN years ago. The help it gives is really valuable."
Mother who cared for her late son at home.

As a black or ethnic minority carer you may face all sorts of additional problems and feel isolated by your caring role. BECONN can make all the difference, offering support that is both practical and culturally appropriate. Last year we provided more than 400 one-to-one support sessions. Everything we do is designed to help develop carers' skills and confidence and reduce isolation.

Our support workers are from a range of ethnic minority backgrounds, including African Caribbean and South Asian, and can help you with issues such as claiming benefits or getting help from a translator. We also run events and education classes in areas such as English language, yoga and IT. And last year nearly 500 people enjoyed one of our respite breaks.

We can also provide:
• advocacy to empower you to get the best out of the available services
• a sitting/escorting service so that carers can have short breaks
• respite breaks and play schemes
• support by telephone, outreach and local carer groups

"The BECONN team has the needs of its carers at the forefront of everything it does."
