We asked a few young carers if they would like to share their stories with us. You may see similarities in your own life. Just know that you are not alone and there are other young carers out there.

Bens mum has a mental health diagnosis:
I was asleep; all of a sudden I heard a noise. It was mum downstairs. She was crying it was half past four in the morning. I asked her what was wrong she shouted “Nothing get back to bed.” I didn’t know what to do I was only 11.

“I realised mum was different from other mums but didn’t know why. I didn’t know at the time that I wasn’t alone; there are at least 1.2 million children and young people

Laura talks about her uncle who has a physical disability
A physical disability is when you have a problem with the way your body works. My uncle has a physical disability called Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and this affects around 85,000 people in the UK.

Dan talks about his mother he cares for who has a learning disability
I live with my mother who has a learning disability. There are a lot of things I have to help her with but some situations cause a lot of frustration. My mother is unable to read or write properly.
