AYC Lincolnshire and AYC+
Action for Young Carers Lincolnshire was established in April 2001 and has evolved from a small project intended to highlight and identify the needs of young carers, to a service which raises awareness of young carers and provides a range of services to young carers directly.
We offer 1 to 1 support if required where any immediate difficulties the young carers or their family are experiencing are addressed. Respite activities, subject to funding, provide young carers with a chance to meet other young people in a similar situation enjoy new experiences and have a break from their caring role. We respond to needs identified by the young carers by working with partner agencies to provide training courses, enabling them to gain new skills such as the Red Cross First Aid Peer Educators and Lincolnshire Partnership Foundation NHS Trust who have facilitated sessions about Mental Ill health and Epilepsy.
Raising awareness of young carers is a large part of our work, supporting other agencies working with our families and reminding all services that Young Carers are everybody's responsibility, our aim is to ensure that young carers are supported by any agencies or professionals they come into contact with. We are active members of the Lincolnshire Young Carers Partnership, which brings together all organisations that work with young carers either directly or indirectly in Lincolnshire.
If you would like to get involved with the Lincolnshire Young Carers Partnership please contact Simon Murphy or Sarah Oliver on 01522 554214. Especially important are Health and Education professionals as they may well deal with young carers more often than they realise.
For this reason, we have developed an Education Resource Pack, posters and other resources to enable schools to support any young carers on their student roll. Workers are available to deliver assemblies and workshop sessions to staff and students, please contact us for more details.
The Young Carer card and poster have been developed by Young Carers themselves through the See Me Talk to Me group which meets monthly at Lincoln County Hospital and provides a forum for health professionals, young carers and other services to talk to each other and find ways of working together to improve communication and reduce stress levels on both sides!
