Adult Carer Support
"Getting in touch with Adult Carer Support was the best thing I did in 2009. It's personal, flexible and hugely professional."
Carer who looks after her husband at home.
If you're over 18 and care for a friend, relative or neighbour who would not be able to manage without you, our Adult Carer Support Service can offer vital support and guidance.
We aim to listen to every carer and provide advice that matches their individual needs; some carers may want help with practical matters such as claiming benefits while others may simply want to talk. We offer one-to-one sessions and run a Support Group where carers can meet in an informal social setting. We also have extensive links with hospital welfare teams, local authority carer assessment workers and with the Welfare Rights Service.
Because we've been working with adult carers since 1992 we've so far been able to help around 20,000 people in the Nottinghamshire area. In 2009/2010 we made and received nearly 3,000 phone calls and our adult carer support workers made almost 500 home visits.
Our team of experts can help you:
• have a voice and know your rights
• access the latest information
• address your own health needs
• recognise your choices and opportunities
• access services in your local community
• take part in social activities
• maximise your income by claiming the right benefits.
"Carers need to be cared for too, and that is what this service does so well."
