About Action for Young Carers

"I like AYC because it's someone to talk to. It's got me out of the house and it's built my confidence too."

A young carer can be expected to do anything from cooking meals and dealing with the family's money to washing and dressing the person who is being looked after. It's demanding work and can make every day into a challenge.

If you are aged 5-18 and look after a family member at home, Action for Young Carers (AYC) Nottingham City, AYC Lincolnshire and AYC+, can provide practical help and advice, as well as giving you a chance to have a break and spend time with other young carers. In the last year, we've made a real difference to the lives of lots of young people, providing individual support and enabling carers to take part in all sorts of sport and leisure activities - even family holidays in one of our caravans.

Of course, every young carer has different needs. If you look after a relative with a physical disability you'll need very different help from someone caring for an adult with mental health problems. Our job at AYC is to listen and then provide exactly the sort of help and support that match your situation.

"If I had to sum up the impact of the AYC team, I'd say they are compassionate, dedicated professionals who've helped us in ways that nobody else has ever been able to. Thank you always."
Father of a child who was helped by AYC during his mother's terminal illness
